Résumé

MomentumPackaging Design, Brand Identity

How can a supplement brand combine sustainability, quality ingredients, and innovative packaging?
Momentum by MegaFood is a conceptual line of supplements formulated to fuel high performance activity with only the highest quality ingredients. This packaging system is designed for people who dedicate a majority of their daily lives to sport and live extremely active lifestyles.

The parent company of Momentum is MegaFood, a supplement company focused on providing the highest quality, pure food-based ingredients. Expanding on their mission, I identified an opportunity for MegaFood to target athletes, who prioritize their physical and mental well-being. I selected specific supplements (electrolyte tabs, preworkout, calcium pills, and a protein bar) aimed at enhancing performance for these individuals and maintaining the vital mind/body.

Custom Forms
3D Form Making + Rendering
The packaging forms are based on the building blocks of athletic performance in human anatomy: muscle and bone.

The color system uses vibrant and bold hues, strategically applied in color-blocked angles to infuse the packaging with dynamic energy. The imagery features individuals engaging in diverse sports and physical activities, with a focus on highlighting their silhouettes. This treatment emphasizes maintaining the body, which aligns with the purpose of these supplements.

The information system highlights numbers, drawing inspiration from jersey numbers. The copywriting and front panel frame showcase the product’s natural formulations, such as being vegan, organic, and gluten free, making it streamlined for the customer to identity their health goals with Momentum.

LogoThe "M" in the logo draws inspiration from the human body, incorporating sharp angles and rounded sections to convey movement. The word mark uses elongated strokes to evoke a sense of speed, while the chosen typeface is commonly associated with sports aesthetics.

Product Formulations

Momentum extends beyond just caring for your body, it is also translates to environmental stewardship. In considering sustainability, I researched appropriate materials for supplement packaging, as well as recently developed food product variations.

Electrolyte Tablets
Dissolvable tablets offer a convenient, lightweight alternative to liquid energy drinks. Simply dissolve in water for a quick hydration solution.
Notpla Dissolvable Pods
Edible seaweed film packets, dissolves in contact with liquid or can be consumed directly, ideal for quick consumption in high performance activity.

Materials
Protein Bar Wrapper
Wrapper produced by TIPA® Compostable Packaging. The material is know for its durability and can be fully home compostable. Graphics printed with flexography printing and soy inks.

Containers
Forms produced from Sulapac, a food-safe material from wood and biopolymers that can be injection molded. This material is sustainable as it biodegrades fully, without leaving permanent microplastics behind.

Brand ActivationsI created a series of posters to expand the visual language of Momentum beyond packaging. The identity uses angles of colors taken from the graphic system on the packaging and highlights the importance of natural supplements through copywriting.

I chose to showcase genuine athletes and their achievements as members of the Momentum Team to build trust among athletic audiences and solidify the brand's authenticity.

Website, Social, & SponsorshipsExpanding the brand beyond packaging, the website and social media platforms engage with the sports community by featuring athletes not typically considered, such as dancers, alongside athletic leaders in the field. Content also offers nutrition tips and product recommendations.

Additionally, I created a spatial design for Momentum's sponsorship at the LA Marathon finish line, recognizing it as the quintessential moment of the event. I also developed essential collateral items for the event, including water bottles and event bibs.

Process & Learning Early Identity & Form ExplorationsThis project challenged me to bridge 3D software with physical forms and graphics. I learned how to make my own forms in SolidWorks and then prototyped them with 3D printing. Rendering was achieved through learning Keyshot.
