Résumé

Blueprints for a Green WorldMagazine Publication

How can a magazine portray the intersection of nature, technology, and architecture in a promising future? This magazine promotes the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), which is a community dedicated to improving lives through green architecture and technology. I developed a central theme of "Blueprints for a Green World"  that juxtaposes technical drawings of nature and architecture with structural typography.

The story of this magazine traces humanity's journey from the primitive Neolithic era, where life was lived under the stars, to the present day, where green architecture can lead us toward a sustainable future.

Typography, Material, and PrintingI used block typography due to its structural weight and its resemblance to buildings, drawing inspiration from the top view of sketches on architectural plans.

The magazine was printed by the Newspaper Club on 80gsm bright recycled paper. The texture of the paper was selected as it is similar to blueprint paper and the large tabloid format allows the viewer to appreciate the intricate beauty of the architectural forms.

Narrative
Sequential Pacing
Part One: OriginsPages 1 to 26 introduce the reader to the ILFI organization and their mission. The magazine starts with the origins of humanity, dating back from 10,000 B.C. and ancient technology.
Part Two: Progression
Pages 26 to 36 focus on different materials, structures, and technology that integrate with natural resources. Featured are examples of paradigm green buildings.
Part Three: The Future
From page 26 to the conclusion of the magazine, the content focuses on positive ways technology can change how we can integrate nature back into our lives.

Infographics
Technology Timeline & Material Origins
Technology TimelineThis distinctive infographic traces inventions from the prehistoric era to the 21st century. I was inspired by the spirit of invention and humanity's intricate relationship with technology in arranging the flow of this design.

Material Origins
This infographic delves into the origins of the five primary materials used in architecture. Given the complexity of the previous diagram, I opted for a simple design that complements the intricate lines detailing the materials' sources.

Poster SeriesThe poster series centers around the main typography structure found on the covers and divider pages. It follows the same sequencing of messaging as the covers, spelling out "LIFE" in the poster series and utilizing the letter forms to highlight vibrant examples of nature and the environment.

As an extension of the magazine, the poster series promote the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). These posters will be exhibited in construction zones where ILFI buildings are currently under development.
