Résumé

Meyers Manx
Visual Identity Rebrand

How can a recreational vehicle brand transform into a lifestyle brand that extends beyond the iconic dune buggy?I was selected to participate in this ArtCenter Sponsored Project in collaboration with Meyers Manx. This client collaborated directly with us as students and were looking for a new, innovative identity for updating their brand based off of a fresh perspective.

Meyers Manx is an iconic California based dune buggy brand looking for an updated visual identity that focuses on the capabilities of their all terrain and electric vehicles. This new innovative design system enhances the customer experience by exploring new avenues for applying the brand identity, such as extending beyond just the vehicle itself and preserving its creative, rebellious spirit.

Logo
The original logo depicts a Manx cat, as a dune buggy drives as if it was this mischievous, erratic wild cat.

The new logo is a reinterpretation of the crest, featuring a side profile of a cat with a road motif, paying homage to the brand's racing heritage. The circular shape is ideal for application onto car steering wheels and tires.

Iconography & Patterns
Icons were crafted to represent all the seasons and functionalities of the dune buddy. They share the same structure as the road motif from the main logo.

Posters & Environmental Graphics
The poster series combine images of current environments suitable for the dune buggies and heritage photos. I incorporated connecting lines and bold shapes to evoke a feeling of motion and the thrill of driving a Meyers Manx.

Mobile App & Social MediaThe mobile app is designed to pair with the electric dune buggy and would feature nearby driving locations to explore depending on the environment, as these are all-terrain vehicles.

The social media is focused on building a community where people would submit their own adventures in a Meyers Manx to be posted and recent events or races. I also chose to feature the brand's apparel/accessories collection as per the client request in leaning towards a lifestyle brand.

Website
The homepage layout captures the chaotic essence of the Manx experience.
The secondary landing page showcases the capabilities of the new electric car.
Electric Vehicle Station
As the brand expands its electric vehicle line, there is an opportunity to enter both private spaces with home chargers and public spaces through advertisements on charging stations.

Apparel & AccessoriesI proposed these curated and designed apparel, patches, and accessories were created to commemorate the brand's racing legacy.

Co-Brand
Collaboration with GoPro
I chose to introduce a co-branding partnership with GoPro, aligning with the client's desire for the Meyers Manx brand to adopt a gender-neutral stance, as GoPro caters to individuals of all genders who enjoy adventures.

I researched and assembled this kit from GoPro's existing product range, tailoring it specifically for use with the dune buggy. The contents include two types of mounts and spare parts to cover all possibilities in case of any lost components during exhilarating rides.

Café
Petersen Automotive Museum
Los Angeles, California
The recent opening of the café at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles (Fall 2022) is an opportunity to establish and introduce Meyer's Manx presence in the transportation industry to new audiences. The cafe's visual identity incorporates symbols from the primary branding, with a particular emphasis on the color green to distinguish it from the main brand.

Interactive Experience
Located at Petersen Automotive Museum
Skills: Installation Design & Creative Coding
This interactive tabletop, situated in the museum lobby, offers visitors a fun opportunity to explore and witness various experiences in a Meyers Manx.

One of the most historic races was the Baja 1000, located in Baja, California. The shape of the tabletop is the shape of this area, with a textured surface to mimic the sandy environment. Visitors use the car to drive to different markers on the map. As the car crosses these markers, it would trigger a corresponding video about that location and footage of wild adventures.

For classroom purposes,  I created a section of this tabletop, using sculpting clay which I modeled with tire track impressions and textured areas. The dirt particles that follow the car’s position were custom coded and built with mouse tracking in Processing.

Logo ProcessMy logo development journey involved various interpretations of a contemporary crest, drawing inspiration from racing heritage and the profile of the Manx cat. My inspiration stemmed from brand attributes of authenticity, spirit, adventure, and adaptability.
